Innoscience's GaN solution for 48V motor drives significantly improves the losses, heat generation, and frequency limitations associated with traditional Si devices, providing design flexibility to accommodate high output drives in the 1kW class. The unique high-speed switching of GaN allows for a reduction of dead time to 100ns, and even with an increase in frequency (from 20kHz to 40kHz), the increase in losses is limited to just 0.7W, demonstrating a significant advantage compared to the 4.1W increase seen with Si. Additionally, under the same cooling conditions, GaN operates at a temperature 23°C lower than Si, making it easier to reduce the size of heat dissipation components and heat sinks. Furthermore, in an on-package configuration, no heat sink is required when operating below 18A, strongly supporting the demand for lightweight, high-efficiency, and high power density in 48V motor systems such as robots, AGVs/AMRs, power tools, and drones.
